Beginner's Guide to Crystals

~Cleanse your Crystals~

One of the first things you should do when you get a new crystal is cleanse the energies that it may be storing from previous owners/environments.

There are multiple ways you can cleanse your crystals, and some can be more effective than others (depending on the specimens or users), but I recommend for any beginner to start with smudging.

Smudging is simple and straightforward; all you have to to is light a chosen herb, and wave your crystal through the smoke with intentions of purification. It is also important to smudge in a highly ventilated space- such as outside or next to an open window- to allow the foreign energy a way out of your space. Some very common and reliable smudging tools you can use are Sage, Incense, and Palo Santo Sticks, which you can find in our shop, listed here.

~Charge your Crystals~

Like many metaphysical things, there are elemental categories of ways to charge, so here are the best go-to ways for each element; Please keep in mind that there are many, MANY more ways to charge your crystals than this, so please do whatever you feel is right.

The most basic ways of charging are under the sun, to enhance motivational energy and passion, or under the moon, to promote healing and self-reflection. If you prefer a more hands-on method, try some of these;

Charging with Water:

First, be sure to check that the crystal you're cleansing is water safe to avoid damaging your crystal. These methods work best for water stones, such as Rhodochrosite, Aquamarine, Amazonite, Chrysocolla, Emerald, Blue lace Agate, and Green Aventurine.

-Simply run cool water over your crystal and quickly dry after. For a more powerful charge, you can find a natural running water source, like a river or creek.

-Let them take a rain shower by setting them in a safe, clean spot outside during a storm.

- Anoint with oil, like Florida water.

Charging with Fire-

As you may guess, the most important thing to remember with this technique is safety. Fire is powerful, but that power can be dangerous if not properly regulated. These methods work best for fire stones such as Citrine, Malachite, Rhodonite, Carnelian, Rhodochrosite, and Red Aventurine.

- Set by a fire.

- Let them soak in the sun for a short amount of time (keep in mind that some specimens can get sun-damaged if out for too long).

- Wave quickly over a candle flame.

Charging with Earth-

Earth Charging is one of my personal favorite ways to cleanse and charge my crystals, because it just seems so wholesome. The best stones for these will be Earth stones like Amber, Bloodstone, Pyrite, Ruby, Garnet, Black Tourmaline, Jade, and Obsidian.

- Let them cuddle with your plants. Plants are known to enjoy some crystal-lovin, too, so it's a win-win!

- Bury them in soil overnight.

- Charge them with other crystals! Some specimens such as Selenite have cleansing properties, while others, like Clear quartz, are actually known to amplify the properties of crystals around them.

Charging with Air-

While smudging is a great, reliable way to remove energies from your crystals, you can also use it as a way to charge them. Much like crystals, different smudging tools have different properties. For example, Lavender is known to bring calming effects, whereas Cinnamon is known to attract love and romance. Try charging your crystals with and herb that possesses the properties you wish your crystal to have! This Works great with any crystals, but the most common air crystals are Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Moonstone, Fluorite, Selenite, Rose Quartz, Labradorite, and Angel Aura.
